The suit that does everything
If a man owns one suit, it should be blue. Navy specifically. It is correct at an interview, a wedding, a funeral, a first date and a board meeting, and it is the only color that manages all of those without ever looking like a compromise.
The reason is optical rather than fashionable. Navy holds detail in a way black does not. You can see the lapel roll, the shoulder line, the taper through the waist. Good tailoring shows. It also reads well in daylight and under artificial light, which no other formal color manages equally.
Varrison blue suits are cut in a tailored fit and arrive ready to wear, made from high quality fabric.
The shades, and what they are for
- Navy: the default. Deep, near-black in low light, unmistakably blue in daylight. The most useful suit color there is.
- Mid blue: brighter and more contemporary. Strong for spring and summer weddings and for daytime events.
- Light blue: a warm-weather and daytime color. Distinctive, less formal, best for outdoor celebrations.
Buy navy first. Add a lighter blue when you want a second suit that does not simply repeat the first.
Wearing it
Navy is the most forgiving suit color to accessorize. White and light blue shirts are the reliable core; pink, lavender and subtle checks all work. Brown shoes are the sharper choice with navy and the reason navy outperforms black for daytime wear, because a mid-brown or tan leather lifts the whole outfit. Black shoes work too and read more formal.
