The default lapel, and the right one most of the time
The notch lapel is the standard on single-breasted suits, and it is standard for a reason. The name comes from the small V-shaped cut where the collar meets the lapel, a step that breaks up the line and keeps the jacket looking relaxed rather than formal. If you own one suit, it almost certainly has notch lapels, and it should.
Varrison notch lapel suits are cut in a tailored fit and arrive ready to wear, made from high quality fabric.
Why it works
The notch lapel reads as versatile and understated. It is correct at an interview, at the office, at a daytime wedding and at dinner, and it never looks like it is trying too hard. That neutrality is exactly what you want in a suit you will wear often and in many different rooms.
It is also the safe choice on a first suit. A notch lapel commits to nothing and works everywhere, which is the whole point of a first suit.
Notch or peak?
A notch lapel is the everyday standard, more relaxed and more versatile. A peak lapel points upward toward the shoulder and reads as more formal and more assertive. For a single, do-everything suit, choose notch. Add peak when you want a second suit with more presence, or on a double-breasted jacket, where peak is the traditional cut.
