The formal lapel
A peak lapel is the more formal and more assertive of the two lapel styles. Its edges are cut into points that angle upward toward the shoulders, and that upward line is the whole effect: it broadens the shoulders, draws the eye up, and gives a jacket noticeably more presence than a notch lapel does.
Varrison peak lapel suits are cut in a tailored fit and arrive ready to wear, made from high quality fabric.
Why it works
The upward point of a peak lapel widens the frame at the shoulder and narrows it at the waist visually, which flatters most builds and particularly suits men who want more presence in the upper body. It carries a formality and a confidence that a notch lapel deliberately avoids.
Traditionally the peak lapel belongs to double-breasted jackets and to formal wear. On a single-breasted suit it reads as a considered, slightly dressed-up choice, which is exactly why it works well for weddings and evening events.
When to choose it
Weddings, as a groom wanting to look distinct from a notch-lapel wedding party, or as a guest who wants presence without an unusual color. Evening events. Any occasion where you want the suit to read as an occasion. It is a strong second or third suit rather than a first, because its formality narrows its everyday range.
Wearing it
Let the lapel do the work and keep everything else clean. A well-fitted shirt with a collar that has enough spread to balance the lapel, a simple tie, and restrained accessories. A peak lapel is already making a statement, and competing with it works against the suit.
